Zak Leever is a musician from the San Francisco Bay Area. Influenced by many contemporary styles, his music combines Jazz, Hip Hop, Dance, electronic music and popular styles.
Born of two Silicon Valley entrepreneurs into a world of computers and music, Zak became a pronounced jazz piano player and music producer at a young age, writing major label remixes and touring with violinist Gabe Gladstein by age 16. By age 18, he completed over a dozen official remixes and original dance tracks which have topped Beatport charts and gathered nearly a million plays on Soundcloud and Youtube. Under the moniker STFU, Zak partnered with producer Alex Waldin, and with the help of Zak's long time personal manager Derek Fieldhouse, STFU made their way into setlists by A-Trak, Diplo, Anna Lunoe, DJ Craze, Keys N Krates, TWRK, Torro Torro, Robbie Rivera, and more. Tracks have appeared on Diplo’s BBC Radio 1 and Apple Beats 1 Radio. STFU is currently working with Slow Roast Records, Fool’s Gold and Mad Decent and has worked in the past with labels like Bazooka, Juicy Records, and Dirty Duck Audio.
As a pianist, Zak has had the opportunity to study with jazz pianists and educators Taylor Eigsti, Kevin Harris and Ken French. He is currently studying with Kenny Werner at Berklee College of Music. Zak has taught as faculty at the Sierra Jazz Society's Jazz Camp, and has taught piano lessons since he was eighteen. On January 25, 2013, Zak and his bandmate Gabe Gladstein were awarded First Place in the Combo Division at the 24th annual Folsom Jazz Festival, one of the largest and most competitive festivals on the West Coast. Zak and Gabe were the first duo to compete and the first combo to displace the infamous Berkeley #1 in a decade as the top combo in Northern California.
Zak just graduated from Berklee College of Music and is now living in Brooklyn, NY pursuing a career full-time as a recording artist. STFU is currently recording a new EP and is planning to release completed original music in 2017.
